Humor is Serious Business…But We Should Still be Laughing
1 Hour Breakout

In a hilarious, multimedia-intensive presentation, renowned business humorist and award-winning Chicago Tribune humor columnist Greg Schwem will make audiences of all ages howl with laughter as he explores the role of, and the need for, humor in a changing world. However, this presentation also tackles serious issues bedeviling HR executives, namely answering the questions..."What is funny?" and "What is appropriate? Greg offers a different perspective: There IS no right answer. Instead, he feels all employees, from the new hires to the C-level executives, must formulate their own answers by working together, instead of running from one another. Only then will the result be a healthy and FUN work environment. Beginning with a video that shows some of the most popular comedians, commercials, sketches and sitcoms over the past 60 years, Greg breaks down why NONE of the video clips would be acceptable today. Also, as a comedian, Greg will recount several instances where he was accused of "crossing the line" and had to defend not only the incident itself but humor in general. Funny, provocative and full of audience interaction, the presentation aims to ultimately show that the positive benefits of workplace humor far outweigh the negative ramifications...but only if employees are willing to acknowledge, and respect, their fellow employees' sense of humor.
